From my very first exposure to research, studying transcriptional regulation in prokaryotes as an undergraduate, I was struck with a fascination for basic research. I thrived on the drive, discipline, determination, creativity and energy that research demands. Specifically, I was drawn by the thrill of being the first person to know some aspect of biology through my experimentation and the freedom to pursue lines of research stemming from unexpected results. As a highly collaborative researcher with broad research interests, I strongly believe that team-based, trans-disciplinary strategies advance science both effectively and rapidly. Much has been written about the power of team-based science and I have learned a great deal by engaging with diverse and talented  researchers.  My group uses any and all techniques at my disposal to tackle a research question and love to work together with researchers from a range of backgrounds.
